Fact-Checking Markwayne Mullin's Height: Separating Internet Rumors from Official Records
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
Unlike career politicians whose athletic achievements exist only in unverified hometown lore, Mullin spent years competing in sanctioned combat sports. His bouts are permanently logged into established athletic tracking databases like Sherdog, Tapology, and MixedMartialArts.com.
Mullin competed professionally in regional promotions, notably the Xtreme Fighting League (XFL), between 2006 and 2007. In every certified bout log, Mullin's height is documented at 5 feet 8 inches. Fighting in the welterweight division required a weigh-in limit of 170 pounds, though like most disciplined combat athletes, his walking weight between training camps sat closer to 185 to 195 pounds of dense muscle mass.

A one-inch variance between collegiate athletics programs and mixed martial arts registries is typical across combat disciplines. Wrestling programs often measure student-athletes while wearing wrestling shoes or round up measurements for program brochures. Mixed martial arts commissions, by contrast, measure fighters barefoot during mandatory medical screenings. The verified barefoot height sits firmly at 5 feet 8 inches.
