Parks and Rec 'Money Please' Guide: Quotes, Episode Guide, and Mona-Lisa Trivia
By Robert Thorne
The line makes its official entrance in "Bailout," the sixteenth episode of Parks and Recreation Season 5. Entrepreneur Tom Haverford, played by Aziz Ansari, is struggling to manage Rent-A-Swag, his high-end clothing rental boutique catering to Pawnee’s fashion-forward middle schoolers. Desperate for retail help, Tom makes the disastrous mistake of trusting his best friend Jean-Ralphio Saperstein (Ben Schwartz), who insists that his twin sister Mona-Lisa is an ideal hire.
Mona-Lisa proves to be an immediate operational catastrophe. Within hours of stepping behind the counter, she insults paying customers, steals cash directly from the register, takes naps inside clothing racks, and starts a volatile physical relationship with Tom. When Tom finally works up the nerve to confront her, Mona-Lisa responds by threatening to burn the store to the ground and falsely claim insurance.
The breaking point arrives when their father, prominent Pawnee obstetrician Dr. Richard Saperstein, enters the boutique. Instead of offering an apology or facing reprimand, Mona-Lisa struts up to him, holds out an open hand, tilts her head with unhinged confidence, and whines: "Money please!" Without missing a beat, Dr. Saperstein opens his wallet, hands her a wad of cash, and cheerfully sends her on her way, establishing the family's absurd financial dynamic in under five seconds.
