Remembering 'Love': the Enduring Legacy and Impact of Ms. Lovis King Greene
When someone of Ms. Greene's stature passes, community institutions step in with deep reverence. Progressive Funeral Home, an historic Black-owned mortuary located on historic Victory Drive in Columbus, managed the final services. For over half a century, the funeral home has assisted Columbus families through their most difficult milestones, and their care for the King and Greene lineages maintained that dignity.
The chapel services provided space for friends, distant kin, and civic peers to gather. Mourners entered to the sound of traditional gospel hymns, filling registry books with stories spanning fifty years. The tributes reflected common themes: her patience, her Sunday dinners, and her stubborn refusal to let anyone walk away hungry or despairing. For Muscogee County, the celebration of life transformed routine funeral proceedings into a shared revival of neighborhood unity.
