Marlon Skull Cap Complete Buyer’s Guide: Sizing, Styling, and Best Alternatives
Sizing is where most buyers stumble. With conventional ballcaps, plastic snapbacks and sliding cloth straps forgive a half-inch margin of error. Leather and structured canvas skull caps offer no such safety net.
To establish your exact size, wrap a flexible tailor's tape around your head approximately 0.5 to 1.0 inches above your eyebrows, running straight across the occipital bone at the widest part of your skull. Pull the tape snug, but do not compress the skin. Record the measurement in centimeters for international sizing charts, as Japanese and European heritage brands rely on metric brackets:
• Small: 54 cm, 56 cm (21.2 in, 22.0 in)
• Medium: 57 cm, 58 cm (22.4 in, 22.8 in)
• Large: 59 cm, 60 cm (23.2 in, 23.6 in)
• Extra Large: 61 cm, 63 cm (24.0 in, 24.8 in)
If your skull measures exactly on a boundary, say, 58.5 cm, the fabric dictates your next move. For knit wool caps, size down. The ribbed knit cuff relaxes by roughly 5% over the first two weeks of regular wear. For leather, always round up to the next full centimeter. A leather band that measures even two millimeters too small creates intense pressure headaches along the temples within thirty minutes of wear.
