Beyoncé and her family largely ignored the gossip initially, expecting the rumor to die on its own. It did not. In an April 2012 profile with People magazine, Beyoncé broke her silence directly, calling the rumors ridiculous and cruel:

"It wasn't hurtful, it was just crazy. Where did they come up with this? It was crazy. It wasn't hurtful, it was just bizarre."

Her mother, Tina Knowles, addressed the claims with greater indignation during an appearance on Access Hollywood, asking publicly how anyone could believe a woman would carry out such an elaborate deception for nine months in plain view of family, friends, and production teams. Jay-Z confronted the gossip on the song "Glory," released days after Blue Ivy’s birth, documenting the emotional grief of previous miscarriages that had made the couple fiercely protective of their early pregnancy news.

Visual proof arrived definitively in February 2013 through the self-directed documentary Life Is But a Dream. The film included unvarnished, raw camcorder footage recorded privately by Beyoncé in front of a bathroom mirror during her third trimester. The footage showed her full, bare abdomen and clearly visible fetal movements, leaving no ambiguity about the physical reality of the pregnancy.
