An essential feature on Dwayne Johnson's True Origins: Inside the Legendary Bloodline That Made 'The Rock', covering essential background.

Q1: What is Dwayne Johnson's exact ethnic background?
Dwayne Johnson is multiracial. His father, Rocky Johnson, was a Black Canadian of African-American descent tracing back to Nova Scotia's Black Loyalists. His mother, Ata Maivia, is Samoan, born into a prominent family of Pacific island nobility.

No, they are not biological cousins. Their connection stems from a traditional Samoan blood oath ceremony performed between Johnson's grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, and Roman Reigns' grandfather, Amituana'i Anoa'i. In Polynesian culture, this pact creates genuine, permanent familial status that is treated as equal to blood kinship.

Yes. Johnson became a naturalized Canadian citizen in 2009 under an amendment to Canada's Citizenship Act, which granted automatic eligibility to first-generation children born outside Canada to native-born Canadian parents.
