You're Playing It Wrong: Why Most 'Last Resort' Guitar Tabs Are Completely Inaccurate
By David Miller
The persistence of the faulty "Last Resort" tab highlights how search engines and user-generated tab websites index information. High-ranking search results on platforms like Ultimate Guitar or Songsterr are determined by user ratings and traffic rather than verified artist reviews. A transcription uploaded in 2002 that accumulated 500,000 positive ratings over twenty years stays glued to the top of search listings, even if the artist publicly debunked it.
Algorithmic inertia keeps inaccurate guitar tabs alive long past their expiration date. Beginners search for a song, pick the five-star rated result at the top of the search engine, and commit the flawed mechanics to muscle memory. Breaking that cycle requires players to actively seek primary-source performance breakdowns and masterclass footage from the original songwriters.
