Why Georgia Snap Cards Are Suddenly Locked: the Conduent Hack Behind Connectebt Chaos
Scammers consistently use public system outages as cover for aggressive phishing campaigns. Fraudsters send spoofed text messages and emails alerting users that their benefits are frozen, embedding links to malicious copycat websites designed to steal login credentials.
Recipients must distinguish clearly between Georgia Gateway and ConnectEBT. Georgia Gateway (gateway.ga.gov) is the state-run platform that manages program eligibility, application reviews, and recertification notices. ConnectEBT (connectebt.com/ga) is the private vendor website that manages the actual payment mechanics: card activations, PIN choices, transaction statements, and cardholder account freezes.
Never enter account numbers or passwords into third-party assistance portals or unofficial mobile apps. If you receive an unsolicited SMS urging you to restore a canceled card via a shortened URL, delete it. Legitimate state agencies and Conduent do not send text alerts containing direct credential-entry links. Navigating directly to official, verified government URLs remains the safest defensive measure against unauthorized access.
