Who Is Alexis the Snow Fairy? Inside the Rainbow Magic Character Craze
By James H. Sterling
Q1: Is Alexis the Snow Fairy the same character as Crystal the Snow Fairy?
No. Crystal the Snow Fairy is the seventh and final book in the core Weather Fairies subseries, focused on restoring winter weather balance. Alexis the Snow Fairy is a separate, standalone special edition bumper book that features a distinct three-part storyline revolving around her magical snowflake wand.
Q2: Why did Scholastic change some character names between the UK and US releases?
Working Partners and Orchard Books originated the stories in London, but Scholastic frequently modified names and localized British idioms for the North American market. For instance, "currant buns" became "muffins," and occasional fairy names were swapped to better match popular American childhood naming conventions of the mid-2000s.
Q3: Are early Rainbow Magic paperbacks valuable investments?
Most standard numbered copies carry virtually no speculative financial value due to printing runs numbering in the millions. Only specific holiday specials, out-of-print seasonal releases with intact cover foil, or copies that retain their original sealed promotional jewelry hold notable resale value on secondary marketplaces.
