Trace Cyrus remains the most recognizable of Miley’s brothers. Born Neil Timothy Helson on February 24, 1989, to Tish Cyrus and Baxter Neal Helson, Trace was legally adopted by country superstar Billy Ray Cyrus after Billy Ray and Tish married in December 1993. Growing up on tour buses gave Trace early exposure to the mechanics of the music business, shaping his ambitions toward rock and alternative music.

In 2006, Trace co-founded the pop-punk electronic band Metro Station alongside Mason Musso, the older brother of Miley’s Hannah Montana co-star Mitchel Musso. The group achieved rapid commercial success. Their 2007 self-titled debut album featured the single "Shake It," which climbed to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned multi-platinum certification from the RIAA. Trace served as the band's lead guitarist and co-vocalist, establishing a distinct public persona characterized by heavy tattoo coverage and an edgy alternative aesthetic.

Following Metro Station's initial hiatus in 2010, Trace launched an independent music endeavor under the name Ashland HIGH and later released solo material under his own name. Through every era, his relationship with Miley has remained visible and protective. Trace has frequently spoken out on social media to defend both Miley and his younger sister Noah against media criticism, reinforcing his role as an elder brother in the entertainment ecosystem.
