Who Are Malika Andrews' Parents? Fact-Checking Her Heritage and Upbringing
Growing up as a multiracial child in the late 1990s and early 2000s came with unique social dynamics, but Mike and Paula approached their daughters' identity with total transparency. Malika is mixed-race, combining her father's African American roots with her mother's Jewish background. Rather than treating these identities as competing influences, the Andrews family integrated both fully.
Religious observance was a core element of Malika's childhood. Paula made sure her daughters understood their Jewish ancestry and traditions. Malika attended Hebrew school and observed major Jewish holidays alongside family members. In 2008, at the age of 13, she celebrated her Bat Mitzvah, reading Torah portions before her community in accordance with Jewish tradition.
Simultaneously, Mike grounded his daughters in the Black experience, ensuring they recognized the historic cultural weight of being Black women in America. This intersectional upbringing gave Malika an expansive cultural vocabulary. In later interviews, she reflected on how being comfortable in diverse cultural rooms early in life translated into an intuitive ability to connect with NBA athletes, coaches, and executives from vastly different backgrounds.
