Where to Watch ‘The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil’ and Why James Wan Is Remaking It
By Marcus Vance
Q1: Is The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil available on Netflix?
A1: As of 2026, the film is not part of the standard Netflix domestic library in the United States. Licensing rights currently reside with ad-supported platforms like Tubi and digital rental storefronts on Amazon and Apple.
Q2: Is the film based on a true story?
A2: Yes, the basic framework is inspired by actual events. A serial killer terrorized the city of Cheonan in Chungcheong province during 2005. The mob boss character and the formal pact between the criminal syndicate and the police department, however, are dramatized fiction written by director Lee Won-tae.
Q3: Will the upcoming James Wan remake be filmed in English or Korean?
A3: The Paramount Pictures project is designed as an English-language production for worldwide theatrical distribution. Don Lee is fully bilingual and will perform his dialogue primarily in English, though elements of his syndicate's operation may incorporate Korean dialogue to preserve character authenticity.
