Where Did the Bird in Cage Meme Come from? Original Source and Template
By Sarah Jenkins
Q1: Who is the original bird cage comic artist?
A1: The drawing originated as standalone digital art posted on X (Twitter) in mid-2024. While watermarks were frequently cropped in early viral reposts, internet archival trackers and Know Your Meme confirmed its roots within Japanese and Western indie illustration circles before it became an open-source template.
Q2: Where does the "therapist gave me this" quote come from?
A2: The quote does not originate from a documented medical paper or clinical study. It was fabricated by an X user as a humorous caption to make the drawing relatable, instantly inventing the narrative that a licensed counselor used the fat bird to diagnose the poster's paralysis.
Q3: How did the "Charmony Dove" copypasta connect to this meme?
A3: Late in 2024, fans of the video game Honkai: Star Rail merged the caged bird template with character Sunday's canonical monologue about a wounded "Charmony Dove." The contrast between Sunday's serious philosophical dialogue and the ridiculously chubby bird drawing created a major sub-trend in gaming communities.
Q4: Where can I download the high-resolution bird in cage blank template?
A4: High-resolution PNGs and blank PSD templates are hosted on major meme indexing platforms, including Know Your Meme's image gallery and dedicated template subreddits such as r/MemeTemplatesOfficial.
