When Is the Apush Exam? the May Testing Window Shocking Unprepared Students
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
The primary May testing schedule positions AP U.S. History near the end of the first full week of testing. Administering the exam simultaneously across local time zones prevents regional leaks, but it imposes strict local operating hours:
- Testing date: Friday, May 8, 2026
- Standard start: 8:00 AM local time
- Recommended arrival: 7:15 AM to 7:30 AM
- Total seated time: 3 hours, 15 minutes (excluding breaks and device initialization)
Proctors begin administrative instructions between 7:45 AM and 8:00 AM. Once proctors read the testing scripts and unlock the digital test within the testing room, late arrivals are barred from entry under standard College Board policies. Testing centers do not grant refunds or automatic rescheduling for missed morning windows. Students relying on district bus routes must confirm alternative transportation weeks in advance, as typical high school arrival schedules rarely match early AP testing requirements.
