Visual Under-Hood Breakdown: Exact 2015 Chevy Equinox Battery Location and Terminals
When the original power cell fails completely, typically presenting as low-voltage sensor errors, cycling door locks, or an instrument cluster flicker, a physical 12-volt battery replacement becomes mandatory. Replacing this unit requires systematically unbolting the components suspended directly over the tray.
Begin by removing the diagonal chassis reinforcement. This cross brace removal requires a 13mm socket to release the two bolts anchoring the steel bar to the fender apron and upper radiator frame. Set the brace aside. Next, unclip the air intake duct on four-cylinder models if your wrench sweep is restricted; popping loose the rubber intake resonator creates valuable swing room for longer ratchet extensions.
The most delicate phase involves the engine control computer. The ECM computer tray is secured by plastic locking tabs and, in some build variants, a small retaining screw. Gently release these tabs and swing the computer module carefully toward the engine block without straining or disconnecting the main wiring harness plugs. Beneath the computer tray lies the metal battery hold-down bracket, secured by a single long 10mm bolt reaching down to the base of the tray. Extracting that hold-down frees the casing for extraction.
