Typo or Genius Satire? Fact-Checking the Spelling in 'Nothing Personnel Kid'
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
Q1: Was the creator of Coldsteel the Hedgeheg ever officially identified?
A1: The character was created by a user known as blood_edge on DeviantArt in May 2013, later identified across social media as Bryan Henderson. Henderson confirmed on multiple occasions that Coldsteel was drawn in MS Paint and written specifically to satirize the influx of melodramatic, grammatically disastrous Sonic fan-creations.
Q2: Why do people always combine "teleports behind you" with the phrase?
A2: The original image description contained the entire action sequence together. The asterisked action mocked instant-transmission anime tropes, while "nothing personnel kid" served as the post-strike one-liner. Online spaces fused them into a single copypasta formula.
Q3: Did the meme originate on 4chan or DeviantArt?
A3: While 4chan's /v/ (Video Games) and /co/ (Comics & Cartoons) boards played a massive role in standardizing the text copypasta between 2013 and 2014, the original image and character sheet emerged directly from DeviantArt.
