Tiktok Under 18 Lockdown: the Strict New Screen Limits and Filter Bans Revealed
At the center of the new under 18 TikTok restrictions sits a rigid default daily time cap. When an account holder identified as a minor reaches 60 minutes of cumulative watch time in a single 24-hour cycle, the endless stream of content halts. The application displays a mandatory lock screen requiring a secondary authentication step to continue.
For users aged 13 to 15, bypassing this screen requires a verified parent or guardian to enter a custom passcode through linked parental controls and supervision accounts. Teenagers aged 16 and 17 can dismiss the warning independently, but only after viewing an unskippable dashboard summarizing their daily usage against peer averages. If an older teen spends more than 100 minutes on the app in one day, the platform triggers a secondary prompt requiring them to explicitly set a personal ceiling for the rest of the week.
The curfew extends deep into the night. Push notifications shut off automatically at 9:00 PM for users under 16, and at 10:00 PM for 16- and 17-year-olds. Algorithms will no longer ping sleeping adolescents with notifications about viral dance trends, direct messages, or livestream alerts until 8:00 AM the following morning.
