In the months and years following the broadcast, the moment migrated to digital platforms. Clips of DeVito’s teardrop sliding over his grotesque makeup flooded Reddit and TikTok. The screen grab of Frank staring upward with damp eyes rapidly crystallized into the "Frank Reynolds crying meme."

Unlike standard comedic reaction images, the template carried genuine emotional versatility. Internet users deployed it to describe moments of sudden epiphany: hearing a difficult musical genre click for the first time, finally understanding an obscure video game’s lore, or witnessing an unexpected display of brilliance in everyday life.

The meme thrived because DeVito's expression was utterly authentic. Audiences recognized that despite the ridiculous foam plugs in his nostrils, the emotion behind his face was not mocking the audience. It became an internet shorthand for unconditional validation.
