The Musical Cyrus Siblings: a Timeline of Trace, Braison, and Miley’s Band Projects
Metro Station did not begin as an industry boardroom concept. In early 2006, Trace Cyrus crossed paths with Mason Musso on the set of Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, where their younger siblings, Miley Cyrus and Mitchel Musso, starred. Both older brothers played guitar and bonded over an appetite for driving electronic rhythms and alternative guitar lines. They formed Metro Station alongside keyboardist Blake Healy and percussionist Anthony Improgo, leveraging Myspace Music during the peak of its cultural relevance.
The strategy paid off swiftly. Driven by word-of-mouth streaming on social media, the band signed with Columbia Records. Their self-titled debut album dropped in September 2007, but the commercial breakthrough came in early 2008 with the release of Shake It. Built around a relentless synth hook and punchy guitar riffs, the track climbed into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, eventually achieving double-platinum certification in the United States and charting across Europe and Australia.
For several years, Metro Station functioned as a genuine touring juggernaut. They joined the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, supported Fall Out Boy, and ran headlining dates across North America. Trace Cyrus served not just as lead guitarist and backing vocalist, but as the band's visual focal point. Tall, heavily tattooed, and unapologetically rock-and-roll, Trace provided a counterweight to the clean Disney image surrounding his family name.
Internal friction took its toll. Creative disputes between Musso and Cyrus led to an initial split in March 2010. While Metro Station later reformed for intermittent tours and independent EPs, including 2015's Savior, their 2007, 2009 peak remains one of the era's definitive crossover moments where Myspace alt-rock met top-tier pop radio.
