Rey Mysterio Age and Timeline: from Teen Cruiserweight to Guiding His Children in Wwe
By James H. Sterling
Modern WWE storylines rarely build on events from twenty years earlier. The dynamic between Rey and Dominik Mysterio is an exception. In the summer of 2005, WWE launched an infamous storyline where Eddie Guerrero claimed to be Dominik's biological father, culminating in a SummerSlam ladder match for the legal custody of the child. Dominik was eight years old, appearing ringside looking confused and terrified.
That narrative thread lay dormant for nearly two decades. When Dominik turned heel in 2022 to join The Judgment Day, he resurrected those childhood segments with surgical precision. Embracing the persona of "Dirty Dom," he donned Eddie-inspired mullets, mirrored Guerrero's classic promos, and accused his father of negligence. Angie Gutierrez, who had remained outside the spotlight for years, became a recurring on-screen presence as Dominik publicly antagonized his mother on national broadcasts.
The feud worked because it blurred public domestic realities with wrestling lore. Crowds booed Dominik relentlessly, not out of fatigue, but out of genuine appreciation for classic villainy. Rey, acting as the heartbroken patriarch, delivered promos rooted in real-life paternal frustration, creating compelling television that sustained multi-month ratings bumps.
