Meet Elizabeth and David Carpenter: Rare Photos and Early Family Milestones
David Carpenter recognized his daughter's unusual vocal control early on. When Sabrina was barely ten years old, he cleared out basement storage space to build a dedicated home recording studio. He painted the walls purple at her request, rigged acoustic baffling, and installed standard condenser microphones so she could track vocals without expensive studio bookings.
That DIY space became an incubator. Between 2009 and 2011, Sabrina used the room to record covers of Christina Aguilera, Etta James, and Adele, uploading them directly to YouTube. When Miley Cyrus launched an international singing contest titled The Next Miley Cyrus Project, David recorded and mixed Sabrina's audition right there in the basement. Out of roughly 10,000 global submissions, Sabrina placed third. That contest win caught the attention of commercial talent agents, proving that David’s home-brewed technical setup had delivered professional-grade output on a shoestring budget.
