Martin Gore’s Love Life Timeline: from 1980S Rock Stardom to His Lasting Marriage

Dive deep into Martin Gore’s Love Life Timeline: from 1980S Rock Stardom to His Lasting Marriage in this comprehensive feature.

In 1989, while touring in Paris, Gore met Suzanne Boisvert, a French-Canadian lingerie designer and model. The connection proved immediate and profound. Boisvert provided an anchor during the grueling World Violation Tour and the subsequent recording sessions for 1993’s landmark album Songs of Faith and Devotion.

The couple welcomed their first daughter, Viva Lee, in 1991. Three years later, on August 27, 1994, Gore and Boisvert married in a private ceremony in London. Two more children followed: Ava Lee was born in 1995, and their son Calo Leon arrived in 2002. As bandmate Dave Gahan fought severe personal crises in Los Angeles, Gore sought domestic refuge with Boisvert, eventually relocating the entire household from Hertfordshire, England, to Santa Barbara, California, in 2000.

Living on the American coast gave the family anonymity. California offered sun, privacy, and expansive properties. Yet the pressures of constant touring and personal evolution took their toll. After 12 years of marriage and nearly 16 years together, Gore and Boisvert filed for divorce, finalizing the split in 2006. Gore channeled the grief of that separation straight into 2009's Sounds of the Universe, producing sparse, emotionally raw arrangements that laid bare his personal restructuring.
