Joe Locke and Kit Connor Bid Farewell: Inside the Heartstopper Finale Film and Locke's Dark Pivot
The centerpiece of the finale film circles back to the private residential home where Nick and Charlie first retreated from Harry Greene’s party in 2022. For the production team, returning to that physical set was an intentional creative decision designed to confront how much the actors had grown on camera.
Locke noted the psychological contrast of walking back into that hallway after years of intense public visibility. "As it says in the scripts, we were babies. It felt very true to life," Locke remarked during production debriefs. When filming began on season one in April 2021, Locke was 17 years old with no prior professional screen credits. Connor was 17 as well, though possessing childhood industry experience.
The sequence in the feature film avoids simple nostalgia. Rather than re-creating the naive electricity of their initial spark, the scene focuses on the anxieties of two young men facing university separations, long-distance relationships, and lingering mental health management. The dialogue deliberately contrasts their original uncertainty with the adult resolve they developed across Oseman’s narrative trajectory.
