Is Zack Thompson Still Canon? Fact-Checking Tech Jacket in Invincible

Purists frequently wonder if changing an adaptation erases the source material. Robert Kirkman has repeatedly stated that television changes do not invalidate Image Comics trade paperbacks. The comics represent a closed, definitive 144-issue masterpiece. The Amazon production represents an updated alternate continuity, similar to Marvel's Earth-616 and Earth-199999 distinctions.
Kirkman previously adjusted characters like William Clockwell, Amber Bennett, and Green Ghost for television, almost universally drawing praise for giving those figures stronger motivations.
