Production ground to an unexpected halt during the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in mid-2023. With fewer than half of the planned eighteen episodes filmed, Marvel executives reviewed the assembled material. The verdict was brutal: the courtroom drama was slow, lacked physical punch, and abandoned the connective emotional tissue audiences expected. Feige quietly fired Corman and Ord, along with the episodic directors, initiating a total restructuring of the series.

Dario Scardapane, an experienced veteran of The Punisher, took over as showrunner. Directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead were hired to steer the physical production. Scardapane's first mandate was simple: bring back Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll. Set photos surfaced in early 2024 showing Henson filming alongside Cox on location in Manhattan, confirming the return of Nelson and Murdock to official canon.
