Is Kieran Trippier Black? the Viral Misunderstanding Behind Wolves' Black Country Derby Headlines
By Elena Rostova
Outside the linguistic quirk of West Midlands sports reporting, genuine curiosity about Trippier’s ethnic heritage has lingered throughout his senior career. Trippier is mixed race. His father, Chris Trippier, is of mixed-race heritage, while his mother, Eleanor Trippier, is white British.
Trippier grew up alongside three brothers, Chris, Curtis, and Kelvin, in Summerseat, a small village near Bury in Greater Manchester. His older brother, Kelvin Phillips, also played professional football, making appearances in the English Football League for Oldham Athletic.
Trippier has repeatedly spoken about his childhood home on Woodhill Street, where his parents balanced working multiple jobs with driving him to Manchester City’s youth academy four evenings a week. During England’s run to the 2018 World Cup semi-final, his father famously erected a massive council-estate garden flagpole flying the St George’s Cross, highlighting the deep working-class support network that underpinned Trippier's rise to international prominence.
