Inside the Sun: How Mark Grayson Finally Ended Grand Regent Thragg's Reign of Terror
Viltrumite biology grants immense durability, but extreme heat breaks down their molecular cohesion. On the outer layer of the sun, temperatures exceed millions of degrees in the corona and thousands of degrees on the photosphere. The moment Mark dragged Thragg into solar orbit, their skin, muscle tissue, and eyes began charring instantly.
The artwork by Ryan Ottley in Invincible #140 pulls no punches. Without costumes, both fighters were reduced to raw, blackened muscle, trading blows while their vocal cords burned away. Thragg held the upper hand in raw physical strength and martial technique. He drove his hands deep into Mark's abdomen, attempting to eviscerate him just as he had done to Nolan. Mark counter-attacked with desperation: he clamped his teeth directly onto Thragg's exposed throat, tearing through the Grand Regent's jugular while holding him underwater in a sea of liquid fire.
Thragg's body finally gave out. As the Grand Regent burned to ash, Mark lost consciousness, his internal organs failing as he sank toward the star's core. Only the arrival of Allen the Alien, protected by deep-space shielding, pulled Mark's charred skeleton from the inferno in the nick of time.
