Pairing your hardware takes less than two minutes once you know which system toggle to flip. Follow these steps precisely to establish a clean wireless link between the PS4 controller and the Switch 2.

Step 1: Enable Wired Communication on the Console

Before inserting any hardware, power on your Switch 2 and head to System Settings > Controllers and Sensors. Scroll down until you find Pro Controller Wired Communication and toggle this setting to ON. Because third-party adapters mimic a wired controller via the USB port, leaving this setting disabled prevents the console from reading any incoming inputs.

Step 2: Connect the Adapter

Insert your 8BitDo or Mayflash adapter into an available USB-A port on the Switch 2 dock. If you are playing in tabletop mode, attach a USB-A to USB-C OTG converter and plug the adapter directly into the bottom or top USB-C port of the handheld console.

Step 3: Put the DualShock 4 into Bluetooth Pairing Mode

Ensure the DualShock 4 is powered completely off. Press and hold the Share button and the PS button simultaneously for roughly three to five seconds. Do not let go until the light bar on the top of the controller begins flashing with rapid, rhythmic white double-bursts. A slow, steady blink means the controller is merely searching for a previously paired PS4.

Step 4: Sync the Adapter

Press the physical pairing button located on the base of your USB adapter. Its onboard LED will begin blinking rapidly. Within three to eight seconds, the adapter and the controller will lock onto the same channel. The light bar on your DualShock 4 will turn solid, and the adapter LED will stop flashing. Your Switch 2 will immediately register a new controller connected in Player 1 position.
