Gran Turismo 7 Engine Swap Spotlight: the Rise of the 3Uz Subaru Brz in 2025
The stock FA20 boxer engine gave the original Subaru BRZ a low center of gravity, but its power delivery left drivers frustrated. The notorious mid-range torque dip between 3,500 and 4,500 RPM forced drivers to constantly downshift to stay in the powerband. Forced induction upgrades solve the output deficit in GT7, but high-boost turbo setups generate unpredictable throttle snap that destroys rear traction on corner exit.
The Lexus 4.3L V8 swap eliminates that dead zone entirely. Because the 3UZ-FE uses double overhead camshafts and Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), it produces a fat, naturally aspirated V8 torque curve right off idle. Linear throttle control returns to the chassis. Drivers can squeeze the pedal midway through long sweepers without unsettling the rear axle, pulling cleanly out of second- and third-gear hairpins without waiting for turbochargers to spool.
