The journey to the Mimic Tear Ashes does not start underground; it begins on the blood-soaked dunes of Caelid. Nokron, Eternal City remains sealed until you initiate the Radahn Festival at Redmane Castle and defeat Starscourge Radahn. His defeat releases the celestial bodies he held suspended in the sky, triggering a cutscene where a fallen star crashes into the southern ridges of the Mistwood.
Following this astronomical event advances the Ranni the Witch questline and leaves a colossal, floating crater just west of Fort Haight in East Limgrave. Ride Torrent to the lip of the chasm and navigate the jutting rock shelves down into the darkness. Passing through the ruined stone tunnels brings you out along the upper battlements of Nokron. Once here, you cannot fast-travel directly to the final chest, you must fight across the rooftops and defeat an introductory boss first.
