Ennis Lantern Festival Schedule: Gates, Release Windows, and Weather Watch
By Robert Thorne
Q1: What time should I arrive at the Texas Motorplex for the lantern release?
A1: Arrive between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM. While the lantern launch does not happen until darkness falls around 7:45 PM to 8:30 PM, heavy highway congestion and venue parking bottlenecks can delay entry by over 90 minutes.
Q2: Can I bring my own sky lanterns to the festival?
A2: No. Personal lanterns are strictly prohibited by the Ellis County Fire Marshal. Only the custom-certified, flame-retardant, 100% biodegradable sky lanterns supplied in the venue’s official check-in kits are permitted on the launch grounds.
Q3: What happens if high winds cancel the lantern release?
A3: If sustained winds exceed 15 mph, local fire officials cancel airborne releases. Per standard ticket refund policies, operators do not issue cash refunds. Instead, ticket holders receive voucher codes valid for a rescheduled backup date or future event stops.
