Deped Restores June School Opening: Inside the Official Sy 2026-2027 Calendar Shift
While shifting away from April and May significantly reduces heat-related disruption, typhoons and heavy monsoonal rainfalls dominate July, August, and September. DepEd has structured updated disaster response protocols to preserve learning continuity without risking physical safety.
The institutional classroom heat mitigation policy remains active even during the rainy season for unusually hot days in late March or early June. School heads hold discretionary authority under DepEd Order No. 037 to automatically transition campuses to Alternative Delivery Modes (ADM), principally modular and asynchronous online setups, whenever the local heat index reaches or exceeds **40 degrees Celsius**.
For storm warnings, localized flood alerts, or power outages, the mandate remains unequivocal: in-person sessions are canceled, and lessons shift to self-paced learning modules. Teachers are strictly shielded from reporting in person when localized government units declare public safety work suspensions.
