Canva Video Transitions Fact-Check: Free vs Pro Features and Mobile Limitations
Applying a transition inside the desktop browser interface begins in the lower workspace. If your project opened in a static graphic format, open the lower tray by clicking Show pages or toggling the video timeline view at the base of the canvas. Video clips cannot blend into one another if they exist merely as layered elements inside a single slide; they must live as separate sequential pages along the horizontal track.
To break a long video file into editable sections, position the vertical black playhead scrub line where the cut should occur. Right-click the clip on the timeline track and choose Split page, or tap the keyboard shortcut S. Canva splits the asset into two adjacent scenes instantly.
Once your track holds two separate clips, move your mouse cursor over the boundary line dividing them. Two icons appear: an upper circle with a plus sign to add an empty page, and a lower rounded icon showing two overlapping directional symbols. Click that lower icon to launch the Transitions menu on the left side of the screen.
Clicking any effect from the menu applies it directly to the junction between those clips. The editor immediately loops a preview on your canvas. If you want a uniform visual flow across a 20-slide deck or a long-form montage, click the Apply between all pages button located at the bottom of the sidebar. Doing this instantly standardizes the cut style across your entire timeline without manual repetition.
